Now, Fingerprint locks are a popular choice for modern apartments and high-end residential complexes. Using multiple unlocking methods has made it necessary for these locks to maintain a power source to support smart features. In this article, Osuno Lock will guide you on how to detect and handle your electronic lock when it runs out of battery.
Signs that Your Electronic Lock’s Battery is Low
OSUNO’s smart locks primarily use two popular types of batteries: Alkaline AA and Alkaline AAA, operating at 1.5V – 1A. For automatic locks (push-pull models), rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries are commonly used.
Typically, the battery life of an electronic lock ranges from 6 to 12 months, depending on usage frequency and environmental temperature. When the battery level drops to a certain threshold, an alert is triggered, either through voice notifications or on the touchscreen display (for models with a display).
How to Handle a Low-Battery Lock
Osuno’s electronic locks all provide at least two unlocking methods, such as mechanical keys and tech-enabled options like RFID cards, PIN codes, and fingerprint scanning. If you’ve forgotten to replace the battery, don’t worry. Once the battery is depleted, unlocking functions via PIN, fingerprint, and RFID card won’t work. However, you can use the mechanical key to enter your home.
If you forget your key, there’s a USB charging port similar to a phone charger on the lock, allowing you to use a power bank to power the lock temporarily and open the door. Once inside, you can replace the batteries.
Important Tips When Replacing Batteries
For Alkaline AA and AAA Batteries
- When purchasing replacement batteries, opt for quality brands like Energizer, Duracell, or Panasonic. These can be found in convenience stores or electronics shops. Make sure the package reads “ALKALINE” for reliable performance.
- Alkaline batteries prevent leakage and deliver long-lasting power.
For Lithium-ion Batteries
- When the battery is nearly depleted, a reminder will notify you to recharge. Connect the battery to a USB port for charging.
- Full charging time is around 2 hours; once fully charged, the battery indicator will change from red to green (Red: not full, Green: fully charged) or, for some models, the indicator light will automatically turn off when charging is complete.
- Avoid overnight charging and use a standard charger instead of a fast charger.
- Over time, repeated charging cycles and environmental factors may reduce battery life, so it’s recommended to check and replace batteries regularly to ensure safety and optimal performance.
